What to expect in the beta
Auxflare Desktop is in beta: here is what it does, what it does not do yet, and what it shares.
What the app does
Auxflare Desktop sits next to your DAW. It backs up and syncs the project folders you link to your Auxflare projects, shows your collaborators' changes as they happen, puts your clips on a shared Board, records what your DAW plays on the Session Tape, and lets you search and drag sounds into your session. It is free with your Auxflare account.
Being a beta means some things are missing or rough, listed below. None of those are bugs to report, unless the app does something worse than what is written here. Updates arrive during the beta.
System requirements
- Windows: Windows 10 or 11, 64-bit (x64).
- Mac: a recent macOS, on Apple silicon or Intel (one app for both).
- An Auxflare account (you can create one from the app) and an internet connection.
- For the Link and Twin plugins: a DAW that loads VST3 plugins, or Audio Units on a Mac.
What each DAW gets
Every DAW below gets backup and sync of the project folders you link. What else it gets depends on what Auxflare can read from its project files and which plugin formats it loads.
| DAW | Backup and sync | Tempo read | Session Twin (beta: Ableton Live and FL Studio) | Link plugin | Twin plugin |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| FL Studio | Yes | Yes (not in trial saves) | Yes | Yes (VST3) | No (drag the .mid out of the Twin window) |
| Ableton Live | Yes | Yes | Yes | Yes (VST3) | Yes |
| REAPER | Yes | Yes | No | Yes (VST3) | Yes |
| Studio One | Yes | Yes | No | Yes (VST3) | Yes |
| Cubase | Yes | Whole numbers only | No | Yes (VST3) | Yes |
| Bitwig Studio | Yes | No | No | Yes (VST3) | Yes |
| Logic Pro | Yes | No | No | Yes (Audio Unit) | No |
| GarageBand | Yes | No | No | Yes (Audio Unit) | No |
| Reason | Yes | No | No | Yes (VST3) | Not tested |
| Pro Tools | Yes | Yes | No | No (Pro Tools needs AAX, not built yet) | No |
Pro Tools has no Link plugin. Pro Tools loads AAX plugins only, and Auxflare does not ship an AAX build yet. Sync, the Board and drops still work without it.
Installing and updating
- Windows may show a SmartScreen warning the first time. Click "More info", then "Run anyway".
- Mac: drag Auxflare into Applications and run it from there. Running it straight from the downloaded disk image breaks automatic updates. If macOS asks whether Auxflare may use "Auxflare Safe Storage" in your keychain, click "Always Allow": that is where the app keeps your sign-in, encrypted.
- The app updates itself. Updates download in the background and install only when no DAW is running, so Auxflare never restarts under an open session. If you always keep a DAW open, close it once in a while.
- Closing the window keeps Auxflare running in the tray (Windows) or the menu bar (Mac), so the DAW connection stays alive. Quit from the tray or menu bar icon.
The Link and Twin plugins
- Link gives the app your live tempo, mix meters and master-bus features, and feeds the Session Tape. Install it from the app (Settings, DAW plugin), then rescan plugins in your DAW. On Windows the install asks once for administrator permission.
- Twin plays your collaborators' Board clips into your DAW as MIDI. It makes no sound on its own: route its MIDI to an instrument track, and arm that track or set its monitoring to In.
- Ghost is off by default for each project. Turn it on and keep that project's Board open while you work; clips are sent only while the Board is open.
- An amber "limited" state means the plugin connected without full trust, or it is an older version. Close every DAW, use Settings, Reinstall, then rescan plugins in your DAW. On a Mac, some sandboxed DAWs always connect as "limited".
- After an app update that mentions the plugins, close your DAWs, use Settings, Reinstall, then rescan plugins.
- The app can also add small helper scripts to your DAW's folders when you use a feature that needs them (the Ableton Live remote script, the FL Studio piano roll script). They are listed under Uninstalling below.
Your projects and backups
- Keep each project in its own folder. If several projects share one folder, Auxflare will not link them, because it cannot tell whose files are whose. Use Save As into a new, empty folder in your DAW, then save once more.
- Every save in a linked folder is uploaded automatically. Only folders you link are uploaded. "N waiting" means an upload has not gone through yet; hover it to see why.
- Your collaborators' files do not download into your folder by themselves. New files show up in Files and on the Board right away, with a notice to "Pull latest". A pull asks before it replaces a project file and keeps a backup of your copy first (the last 5 copies per file, for 14 days).
- Bounce into the project folder and name the bounce after the project (for example
My Song.wavforMy Song.flp), so it becomes the project's preview and not a stem. - Moving or renaming a linked folder breaks the link. Auxflare says so and offers to link it again; saves are not backed up until you do.
- Auxflare is not your only backup. Keep your own copies of your projects.
Known limits
- FL Studio trial saves show no tempo (FL scrambles values in unlicensed saves). Cubase shows a whole-number tempo; a fractional one is left blank.
- Guest links can listen and comment, but cannot upload files yet.
- Audio clips on the Board do not stretch when the tempo changes; MIDI follows the tempo. Undo works per clip, not per gesture.
- Session Tape keeps the last 12 takes per project for 48 hours unless you keep or pin them. Keep single takes under 10 minutes: a take stays in memory until the transport stops.
- Sounds: add your sample folders yourself; rescanning is manual for now. You can preview any store sample, but only purchased or free samples can be dragged into your DAW.
- Drops are desktop only. On the web you can see a drop but not act on it.
- Notifications may wait until you open the window again when the app has been in the tray for a long time (about 20 minutes).
- Switched off in the beta: paid forks, held payments, and "I'm interested" on projects. Free forks work.
- Release on the desktop creates a draft; you finish it in your browser. Only the project owner can start a release.
- "Master it" and "Split stems" open the web page in your browser.
Sending feedback
From the app
- Send feedback is one click away: the speech-bubble button in the top bar, the account menu, Ctrl+K (Cmd+K on a Mac) and "Send feedback", or Settings, About.
- Pick Bug, Idea or Question and write at least 20 characters. If sending fails, your text stays in the box so you can try again.
- "Attach a screenshot of the app window" attaches a picture of the Auxflare window only, nothing else on your screen.
- "Include diagnostics" (on by default) adds the app and plugin versions, your OS, the DAW, the Link state, recent error messages and the end of the app's log. Folder paths under your user folder, emails and keys are removed first. The log can still contain file and project names, so open "What is sent" in the dialog to read exactly what goes.
- It arrives as a support ticket. You get the ticket number and an email, and we answer in the ticket ("Open my ticket" opens it in your browser).
On the web
Open Support and send a ticket while signed in. The best reports say which DAW and version, Windows or Mac, what you did, what you expected, and what the app showed.
What the app shares
- Projects you link: every save in a linked folder is uploaded to your Auxflare project. The app reads the project file (tempo, key, track and plugin names, and for FL Studio and Ableton Live the MIDI patterns) to show it to the project's members. To find projects, it looks through your Documents and Music folders and connected drives; that search stays on your computer. Session Tape takes stay on your computer until you keep or send one.
- Presence: your collaborators see that you are online and, in the app, the DAW you are using and its tempo.
- Error reports: when the app hits an error it sends the message with the app version, OS, platform and DAW. Folder paths, project and file names, emails and keys are removed first. They are linked to your account when you are signed in, and kept 90 days.
- Usage data: counts of which features you use, linked to your account, with your app version, OS and DAW. Never project or file names, audio, folder paths, messages or who you work with. Kept 180 days. To turn it off, go to Settings, About, "Share usage data": off means no usage events at all, and anything not yet sent is deleted.
- We collect this ourselves. The app never loads Google Analytics or any other third-party analytics.
The full details are in the Privacy Policy and the Terms (section 3.8).
Uninstalling
Quit Auxflare first (from the tray or menu bar icon), and close your DAWs.
Windows
- Open Settings, Apps, Installed apps (Apps & features on Windows 10), find Auxflare and choose Uninstall.
- The uninstaller does not remove the plugins or DAW scripts. Delete them by hand (the VST3 folder needs administrator permission):
C:\Program Files\Common Files\VST3\Auxflare Link.vst3C:\Program Files\Common Files\VST3\Auxflare Twin.vst3Documents\Ableton\User Library\Remote Scripts\AuxflareDocuments\Image-Line\FL Studio\Settings\Piano roll scripts\Auxflare - Paste board clip.pyscript
Mac
- Drag Auxflare from Applications to the Bin.
- Then delete the plugins and DAW scripts by hand (in Finder, Go, Go to Folder):
~/Library/Audio/Plug-Ins/VST3/Auxflare Link.vst3~/Library/Audio/Plug-Ins/VST3/Auxflare Twin.vst3~/Library/Audio/Plug-Ins/Components/Auxflare Link.component~/Library/Audio/Plug-Ins/Components/Auxflare Twin.component~/Music/Ableton/User Library/Remote Scripts/Auxflare~/Documents/Image-Line/FL Studio/Settings/Piano roll scripts/Auxflare - Paste board clip.pyscript
Uninstalling the app does not delete your Auxflare account or the projects you uploaded. To delete your account, use your account settings on the web or write to support@auxflare.com.
